  • The Israeli Prime Minister’s office announced that two Russian-Israeli citizens were released from captivity in Gaza on Wednesday, as pressure builds for Israel and Hamas to extend the current pause in fighting.

  • The pause is set to expire Thursday, but Israel expects a further extension of “another two to three days”, according to an Israeli official. 

  • The Biden administration wants Israel to extend the pause, [...] but the Israeli official said the pause will not “lead to a permanent cease-fire,” adding that the “goal of removing Hamas from its rule in Gaza” remains critical.

(The Guardian) Russia ramping up attacks in Donetsk, says Ukraine

  • Russia is ramping up its attacks in the eastern Donetsk region, the Ukrainian military has said. Spokesperson Oleksandr Shtupun has “doubled its artillery fire and airstrikes” and had also “intensified ground infantry attacks”.

  • Russian forces claimed to have taken control of the village of Khromove in the same region.

 

(Kyiv Indipendent) Media: Ukrainian group, SBU hack Russian Labor Ministry database

 
  • A Ukrainian hacker group (called Blackjack) working with the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) hacked into the website of Russia's Labor Ministry and obtained sensitive data concerning the ongoing invasion of Ukraine, Ukrainska Pravda reported on November 29, citing an unnamed security service source.

 

(Bloomberg) Ukraine Poll Shows 40% Back NATO Bid Without Occupied Regions

 
  • A total of 40% of those asked said they fully or rather supported the idea of Ukraine joining the bloc with only those territories currently under government control, according to the telephone survey of 1,000 people conducted by the Rating pollster on Nov. 22-23. Support for NATO accession slipped to 77% from 83% in July and is now at the same level as it was in March 2022, shortly after Russia started its invasion.

  • Any decision by Finland to allow a "concentration" of troops on its border with Russia would be viewed by Moscow as a threat, the Kremlin said on Wednesday, after Poland offered to send military advisers to help Helsinki police the frontier.

  • The head of the Polish National Security Bureau, Jacek Siewiera, said in a post on social media X late on Tuesday that Poland would send military advisers to its NATO ally Finland, in response to "an official request for allied support in the face of a hybrid attack on the Finnish border".
