(New York Times) Israel and Hamas confirm a deal to allow medicine to reach hostages. - Israel and Hamas have reached a deal that would allow medications to be delivered to Israeli hostages in return for additional medicine and aid for Palestinian civilians in the Gaza Strip.
- The agreement was announced on Tuesday by Qatar, which has served as a mediator.
(New York Times) Videos show people leaving Nasser hospital amid fighting in the area. - Displaced Palestinians sheltering at the largest hospital in the southern Gaza Strip fled the grounds of the medical facility early Wednesday morning as intense fighting flared nearby, according to videos on social media and news footage broadcast by Arab television networks.

| (Guardian) Protesters clash with Russian police after activist jailed - Protesters in a small town in Russia’s central Bashkortostan region clashed with riot police on Wednesday after a court sentenced eco-activist and campaigner for the protection of the Bashkir language, Fail Alsynov, to four years in prison for “inciting hatred”.
- According to Sota, an online outlet that is independent of the state and publishes mostly on the Telegram messaging app, the clashes started after protesters blocked the court building in a bid to try to stop Alsynov from being taken away. Anticipating a public response, police had on the eve of the verdict warned people not to take part in “illegal public gatherings”.
- The head of the local interior ministry, Rafail Divayev, urged demonstrators to back down on Wednesday. “Mass riots threaten our country’s national security, therefore the punishment under this article is quite serious,” the state-run RIA Novosti news agency quoted him as saying. “I advise you to come to your senses and not ruin your life.”

Medio Oriente | (Guardian) US designates Houthis as terrorist group after attacks on ships in waters off Yemen - The US has announced the re-designation of the Houthis as a Specially Designated Global Terrorist (SDGT) entity
- The decision requires US financial institutions to freeze Houthi funds and its members will be banned from the country.
- The Biden administration removed the Houthis’ SDGT designation in February 2021. At the time, the US secretary of state, Antony Blinken, cited the dire humanitarian situation as the reason for remove the group’s designation.
(Guardian) Iran strikes ‘militant bases’ in Pakistan in latest Middle East flashpoint - Iran has launched airstrikes on Pakistan territory, apparently aimed at a Sunni militant group.
- Pakistan’s foreign ministry said two children were killed and three others were injured in what it called an “illegal” airstrike, and summoned Tehran’s senior diplomat in Islamabad to protest against the “unprovoked violation of its airspace”.
- Pakistani social media accounts said missile and drone strikes had been aimed at the Balochistan province which lies along the 1,000km border between the two countries.
